1, 2, 3, UIC students step up to awards in national contest

UIC students excelled in the national competition, the 2024 "FLTRP·ETIC Cup" "Understanding Contemporary China" National Foreign Language Proficiency Contest for College Students, winning one gold award, two silver awards, and three bronze awards on 9 December 2024.

In the International Communication Competence, Wang Kemingyue of the Public Relations and Advertising Programme stood out among 1100 contestants who entered the national competition, winning the gold award. Huang Qiongyi of the Digital Social Science Programme and Xie Yuchen of the Chinese Culture and Global Communication Programme, won the silver and bronze awards, respectively.

"The topics of the national contest this year were very diverse and challenging, covering various fields such as culture, education, economy, and popular topics like 'Paris Olympics', 'Guizhou rural basketball league', and 'Cybersecurity'," said Wang. As one of the few non-English majors in the competition, she credited her learning and growth experience at UIC for winning the gold award.

When asked about her experience at UIC, Wang said, "UIC's English teaching environment has greatly improved my language skills and way of thinking." She added that UIC's frequent group presentations and group discussions in class also improved her ability to respond quickly and think logically.

In the Short Video category, Yu Peien of the Media and Communication Studies Programme, together with Zhou Yuyang of the Public Relations and Advertising Programme, won the silver award for their video about attracting overseas students to study in China through Digital China.

Meanwhile, Xu Bohan and Li Enqi of the Media and Communication Studies Programme won the bronze prize for their work on digital connectivity in the Greater Bay Area.

UIC students were also shortlisted for the Translation category, and Lu Xinyu of the Chinese Culture and Global Communication Programme brought home the bronze award.
