New semester kicks off at UIC

Published on 22 February 2021

UIC students returned to class after enjoying the recent Spring Festival holiday on 22 February. The brand-new textbook opens a new chapter, and the friction between pen and paper has left a mark on knowledge.

At 9 am, the first flag-raising ceremony of 2021 was held in Zhonghe Square of UIC. China's national flag was waving in the wind while the Chinese national anthem played to bring in the new semester.

Party Secretary of the College Party Committee and UIC Vice President (Administration), Prof Mao Yaqing, delivered a speech after the flag-raising ceremony. He encouraged the students to grasp the new semester's opportunities and live up to their youth.

With the books on display, neat tables and chairs, and a quiet atmosphere, the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is full of spirit due to returning students. Facilities like the gymnasium and the Sports Park are open too; therefore, this semester can stream-roll ahead.

UIC's Senate has approved a new Academic Calendar for this semester to reduce student stress and improve academic success. Week 7 is now reserved as Reading Week, in addition to a 3-day break scheduled right before the final examinations. Students are expected to make the best use of their time to catch up on coursework and consult their course instructors whenever necessary.

Classes will be conducted in one of the three ways: face-to-face teaching, a combination of face-to-face and online modes, and real-time interactive online mode. Students and teachers on campus will attend class in the physical classroom or location assigned; students and teachers who are off campus will virtually join the class.

Canteens on the campus have started up again with their staff greeting students and faculty with enthusiastic smiles. To ensure food safety for the college and create a good dining environment, UIC inspected the dining venues before the beginning of the semester. All the batches of food samples went under strict quality control. Canteen employees strictly implemented health monitoring and reported their travels during the Spring Festival.

UIC teachers and students have returned to school successively. With the help and guidance of front-line staff, everyone entered the campus in an orderly manner.
