UIC Provost Prof Chen Zhi hosts this talk
The international society has witnessed the achievements of China's nationwide anti-COVID-19 battle. President Tang reviewed the essential milestones and measures taken in the fight. When the outbreak happened in Wuhan, other Chinese provinces and cities have mobilised supplies and sent medical staff to help Wuhan. People from all over the country were thinking of and supporting Wuhan. Moreover, China's strong scientific and technological strength has provided strong technical support for the fight against the epidemic. President Tang pointed out that this shows "Chinese spirit" and "Chinese power", which demonstrates the significant advantages of Chinese governance in concentrating its efforts on major tasks.

2020 is a year that marks the victory against poverty in China, which results from the continuous efforts of several generations. President Tang described the difficulties China encountered on the road to poverty alleviation and the valuable results achieved along the way. He specifically mentioned some individuals who have contributed to China's poverty alleviation and hoped that the students would draw strength from them.
President Tang mentioned that many UIC students had worked hard to fight against the epidemic or poverty alleviation. He Haoyu, a third-year student from the Public Relations and Advertising Programme, participated in the anti-COVID-19 battle as a young volunteer and spent his 20th birthday on the front line. UIC Alumni Association donated protective materials to hospitals in Hubei Province. In terms of poverty alleviation, Yang Ruixin, a graduate of Applied Psychology, and many others supported education in rural primary schools and contributed to China's goal of promoting educational balance. UIC alumni Jia Fan and others raised one million RMB to build a primary school in Guizhou when they were UIC students. Also, UIC students have been participating in various public welfare practice activities inside and outside the campus. These all reflect the strong sense of social responsibility of the younger generation.

In February 2020, the UIC Alumni Association donated disposable gowns and other materials to Hubei
In April 2020, UIC purchased disposable protective masks, alcohol disinfection cotton pads and other materials and sent them to teachers, students, and alumni living abroad.

President Tang said with pride that UIC students have both international vision and love for their country. He hopes that students can participate in more social practical activities through student organisations and are willing to help disadvantaged groups and cultivate noble morals.

President Tang is very proud of UIC students' participation in the fight against the epidemic and poverty alleviation
At the end of the lecture, President Tang concluded that after experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic and witnessing the miracle of poverty alleviation, UIC students should march forward courageously with the country and not forget their goals.
President Tang also said that the construction of the second-phase campus and the inheritance of UIC's beliefs require all teachers and students' joint efforts. He hopes that teachers and students can work together to build a first class liberal arts college.
