UIC conducts Guangdong CEA Examination online with record high of applicants

Published on 23 June 2021

UIC held the 2021 Comprehensive Evaluation Admission (CEA) Examination for Guangdong Province on 19 and 20 June. A record high of more than 5,000 candidates applied this year. After rigorous checks, almost 3,600 candidates were qualified to take the examination, an increase of 30% from the previous year.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the examination was conducted online. It consisted of an English Oral Examination and a Sports Test.

The UIC Comprehensive Evaluation Admission follows a "6:3:1" ratio. This ratio means that 60% of the candidate's Gaokao (college entrance examination) result, 30% of the CEA exam's result, and 10% of the grades from high school would be considered.

According to UIC Provost, Prof Chen Zhi, to find the most suitable students for UIC, the CEA exam aims to test students' oral English, general education, analysis skills, interpersonal skills, and flexibility.

Associate Vice President (Student Development), Prof Stella Cho, explained that UIC had laid down strict rules and deployed many staff members to ensure the examination was a success. Before the official exam, UIC staff helped candidates test the devices and get familiar with the procedure. The online test has also brought convenience to some of the Guangzhou candidates who cannot leave their campus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

UIC continues to admit students in Guangdong Province this year with diverse methods. The CEA programme plans to enrol 692 students, and the regular undergraduate batch enrolment intends to admit 80 students. Director of Admission Office, Ms Lin Qunying, gave a gentle reminder about the CEA application, explaining that applicants need to tick the option which indicates "special type of admission-comprehensive evaluation admission". In principle, the CEA candidates’ Gaokao scores still need to pass a certain standard.
