President of UIC, Prof Tang Tao emphasised the irreplaceable role of higher education institutions in health building in China with his opening speech.

He said universities and colleges could benefit students, faculty, society, and the community.

He added that UIC would continue to build a green, humanistic and healthy environment for the second phase of the campus under construction.

An initiative named the Okanagan Charter was introduced, calling on post-secondary schools to embed health into all aspects of campus culture and to lead health promotion action and collaboration locally and globally.

Moreover, they pointed out that youth is crucial for people to develop health awareness and sports abilities. Therefore, schools should establish and fortify students’ healthy habits through campus cultures and activities.

Meanwhile, schools should work together with academics and governments for full coordination to better promote the notion of health.

UIC’s students also presented their research projects to the participants, offering new ideas to study the health issues from the perspectives including the active practice of health and happiness, the effect of new media on the elderly, and how mindfulness influences our daily life.
