UIC bids a warm farewell to Prof Chen Zhi, Provost and Chair Professor, who will depart from the College in late September this year. A farewell dinner was held in his honour on 23 September 2022.

President of UIC, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences Prof Tang Tao said: "Professor Chen is an invaluable colleague and dear friend to me. It has been a privilege to work alongside someone who is a thoughtful and caring educator, as well as a remarkable university administrator."

Prof Chen Zhi said: "It has been my great honour and privilege to have stuck through thick and thin with President Tang and each of you at such a nationally-renowned university in promoting and practising Liberal Arts Education. This is a period of my life that has been most memorable, and for which I will cherish for years to come."

At the farewell dinner, videos were played to review Prof Chen's shining moments at UIC, and unique souvenirs were presented to Prof Chen.

Professor Chen joined UIC in 2018 as Vice President (Academic) before being promoted to Provost and continued powering UIC's growth in various ways.
Prof Tang said when recollecting Prof Chen's contribution to UIC: "Professor Chen has dedicated himself during his tenure to UIC's academic development, talent acquisition, international cooperation, student admission and placement, and campus development. Professor Chen has also founded the Chinese Culture and Global Communication Programme and the joint Research Centre for History and Culture, among his many tremendous contributions during UIC's second decade of significant development."

In the future, Professor Chen Zhi will maintain close contact and cooperation with UIC, and UIC will keep upholding liberal arts education, cultivating more talents in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and contributing to the country's development.
