Students show respect to teachers at Appreciation Ceremony

The 9th UIC Appreciation Ceremony was held at the Performance Theatre on 28 September 2022, the birthday of Confucius, a great educator and philosopher in ancient China. The ceremony started with a performance and eulogy in memory of Confucius.

At the ceremony, teachers helped students to dress up. Then students served teachers three cups of tea to show their respect, gratitude, and determination to study hard.

UIC President, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, Prof Tang Tao, said in his speech that UIC upholds the motto of "In knowledge and in deeds, unto the whole person", and UIC teachers pursue to educate students with decency and mutual respect. Additionally, he encouraged students to be respectful to others and become a "whole person" like Confucius through lifelong learning.

Teachers also prepared gifts for students.

Student representative Zhou Xiaomi, a first-year Media and Communication Studies student (MCOM) expressed appreciation to her General Education course lecturer, Dr Chally Lim, who guided her in academic learning and communication.

Invited by Zhou Xiaomi to the ceremony, Dr Chally Lim talked about her ten years of teaching experience and the importance of improving herself and leading by example when cultivating students.
