Students regain energy from Reading Week

This semester, UIC's Reading Week started from 23 to 29 October. There were no regular courses during this time, so students could arrange their learning schedule or take this opportunity to participate in activities.

From one classroom to another

Continuing her internship during Reading Week, Ye Ping taught pupils opera performances at the Guangsheng Primary School in the Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai. She used practical approaches learnt from her major courses to improve her teaching.

Documentary filmmaking

In Reading Week, Xing Mingfang filmed the landscape, delicacy and lifestyle at Suzhou for her documentary on cultural tourism. Combining theories with practice, she could experience the charm of local tourism and culture in Suzhou.

Preparing for English language exam

Reading Week gave Yu Yongkang a chance to brush up on his English daily. He sorted his notes and discussed questions about the IELTS exam with fellow students.

Conduct fieldwork in rural area

Guo Xinyue learned a lot on fieldwork with her Free Elective Course teacher and fellows about the economic development and transformation of Chinese rural areas. To help students learn more about agricultural and rural development, the lecturer of this course, Prof Zhao Xiaobin, Associate Dean of FHSS, took them to visit the local township enterprises and economic zone of Zhaoqing, Guangdong.

Meal-with-Your-Professor program (MYP)

"Stay Hungry: Meal with Your Professor" was co-organised by the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) & Students Affairs Office (SAO). Chen Yining and Zhao Xinke had a meal with FHSS's Associate Professor Dr Edgar Yuen, who shared his experience in journalism, answered their questions and offered valuable advice on their future development.

Other activities

UIC invited outstanding professionals in various fields to give lectures so that UIC students could access knowledge outside their major. In addition, students' career planning, final year project, graduate studies and so on were also covered in online and offline activities organised by UIC during Reading Week.

Moreover, there were plenty of events for students to feel relaxed, including the reading club, lunchtime cinema, English Speaking Corner, Hall activities, etc.

After a fulfilling Reading Week, UIC students have prepared for the intense study of the rest of this semester and are ready for new adventures full of energy and confidence.
