UIC graduates eligible to apply for Hong Kong work permit

Published on 6 January 2023

According to the latest Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG) issued by Hong Kong’s Immigration Department, the limit of stay for non-local graduates would be extended to two years. The policy covers those who graduated from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) campus of a Hong Kong university including UIC.

Under the new arrangements, applicants of the GBA campus graduates should have obtained an undergraduate or higher qualification in a full-time programme offered by a higher education institution in the Mainland cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area jointly established by universities of the Mainland and Hong Kong in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools.

Located in Zhuhai, UIC is the first full-scale cooperation between a Hong Kong university (Hong Kong Baptist University) and a Mainland university (Beijing Normal University). Thus UIC's graduates can benefit from the new arrangements.

The GBA campus graduates are divided into two types based on different application periods:

Those who submit applications within six months after the date of their graduation, are classified as GBA campus recent graduates and can come to or stay in Hong Kong for work for 24 months even without securing an employment offer.

Those who submit applications beyond six months of the date of their graduation are classified as GBA campus non-recent graduates and are required to secure an offer of employment upon application.

For more details on the IANG and application, please refer to the official website of the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
