UIC President, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences Prof Tang Tao attended a lecture organised by the Hong Kong STEM Education Alliance at the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Kap Yan Directors' College on 24 March 2023.

Prof Tang delivers a speech to middle school and primary school students in Hong Kong
Prof Tang delivered a speech titled "Mathematics drives modern technology – a case study on Huawei" to students to demonstrate the vital role of maths in modern technology from the perspectives of pure mathematics, applied mathematics and computational mathematics.
During the speech, he brought the stories of several mathematicians, encouraging the audience to accumulate knowledge through hard work and lay a solid foundation for more significant challenges in the future.

Prof Tang also shared his opinion on AI with the audience. He said that AI still mainly relied on human input to function, and it had the potential to save human labour and stimulate more people to innovate.
The lecture attracted around 600 students and teachers from 14 colleges and schools in Hong Kong.

Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Kap Yan Directors' College was founded in 1982 and is dedicated to cultivating all-round students. Prof Tang was invited by the College in 2022 to provide advice and guidance in promoting science and innovation education.
Hong Kong STEM Education Alliance aims to liaise with people who support STEM education, promote and lead the development of STEM education in Hong Kong, enhance students' interest in science and technology and strengthen students' necessary knowledge.
