Published on 25 July 2023

The 12th International Chinese Statistical Association (ICSA) International Conference was held from 7 to 9 July 2023 in Hong Kong, China. At the conference, Dr Ma Chuoxin of the Department of Statistics and Data Science of UIC's Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) won the Junior Researcher Award for her paper, Multi-state model and structural selection for the analysis of depressive symptom dynamics in middle-aged and older adults. It is reported that this award is open to young scholars who graduated from doctoral programmes no more than five years ago, and there are no more than five winners across the globe each year.

The ICSA is a non-profit organization and one of the most influential statistical associations in the international statistical community, with many internationally renowned statisticians as its directors. The Association is organised and operated only for educational, charitable, and scientific purposes.

Dr Ma received her PhD in Statistics from the University of Manchester and worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Cambridge before joining UIC. Currently, she's interested in developing new methods and theories for tensor regression (with application in image analysis), causal inference in longitudinal data analysis and multi-state models.
