UIC's global talent hunt a success in UK

Published on 5 November 2024

UIC has hosted a series of Global Talent Acquisition events in four major UK cities: London, Oxford, Manchester and Edinburgh, attended by nearly 80 scholars from the UK, Poland, Italy, Austria and more countries.

The participants said they gained a deeper insight into the job opportunities at UIC and the prospects for teaching and research in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Global Talent Acquisition events served as a platform for UIC to connect with international scholars and professionals, fostering a global academic community and promoting the exchange of knowledge and ideas.

In 2024, six offline talent recruitment fairs and two online sessions have been held successively in countries and regions such as Hong Kong SAR, Singapore, and the UK, attracting more than 250 overseas talents.

"We have been going to many different places to recruit our international faculty," said UIC Provost and Acting Associate Vice President (Internationalization) Prof Patrick Chau. "Because many of our faculties get education abroad or used to work abroad, we should use our network to expand our potential candidate pools."

UIC is ranked among the top 100 universities in China in terms of the concentration of high-calibre talents, with its staff coming from around 40 countries and regions and 100% of its lecturers and above have accumulated overseas study or work experience.

Nearly 90% of full-time lecturers and professors from all the departments hold doctoral degrees, and 13 scholars have been selected as the world's top 2% scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier. Many faculty members hail from world-renowned universities such as Stanford, Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Peking and Hong Kong, providing students with high-quality academic resources and advanced teaching methods.

Prof Chau shared that UIC plans to welcome more international scholars to visit or work on campus for a while, to get to know UIC better, and perhaps join it one day. “For international faculty, we want to increase from 22% to hopefully no less than 30% in a few years,” he said.

After the talent acquisition fairs, UIC senior staff and management, including Prof Chau, attended the UIC UK Alumni Association event, witnessing its official establishment in the country.
