Prof Martin Lee from Stanford University and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre spoke of “Aimigo: an optimisation algorithm that changes the game” at UIC on 25 November.

Prof Lee said non-linear programming leverages constrained optimisation algorithms to address the challenges of inverse system design, data mining and machine learning. As data sets grow and systems become ever more complex, the challenges of finding optimal solutions become more difficult or even impossible.

Over the past decade, Prof Martin Lee has been working on non-linear programmes that can overcome these limitations. He described how his work has developed ACORN (an Adaptive Constrained Optimal Robust Non-linear algorithm), which can be used to find the global minimum solutions for large and complex optimisation problems.
