On 4 December, Stuart Christie, professor of the Department of English Language and Literature at Hong Kong Baptist University, spoke of famous English literary critic Sir William Empson’s contribution to the bilateral knowledge transfer during his life in turbulent China in the first half of last century. Prof Christie highlighted that literature played an important role in cultural communication, which was aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position. |
