UIC's current semester college calendar has set the seventh week as Reading Week to alleviate academic pressure. During this week, the college does not arrange courses and exams for students.

How do you spend the first Reading Week of UIC?
Reading Week gives students more choices
UIC Associate Vice President (Internationalization) and Dean of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof Adrian Bailey, hopes that students can spend more time consolidating their existing knowledge and reviewing basic knowledge during the Reading Week and relieve the academic pressure in the later stage; besides, students can also take this opportunity to explore after-college hobbies and cultivate reading habits.

Seize the opportunity
English Language Centre (ELC) Senior Lecturer, Mr Darrell Rea, believes that Reading Week is an excellent time to "overtake on a curve". In addition to studying professional curriculum materials, Mr Rea believes students can read more English materials related to their hobbies to improve their English language skills while having fun.

Reading Week provides buffer time for learning
Assistant Instructor of the Whole Person Education Office, Ms Lily Bai He, spent her Reading Week during her time studying for a master's degree at McGill University in Canada. She remembered she took the chance to review the literature and books recommended by the course teacher. She also took the time to optimise her study notes and related articles.

Only reading during the week
When Zhang Yihang, a graduate of Journalism, came to Swansea University as an exchange student, she experienced Reading Week. At that time, she mainly read the list of thesis reference books provided by the professor. She believes that having an allocated time just to read is a kind of happiness in itself. Usually, in class, she has little time for many text materials that need a longer time to be understood. However, Reading Week provides sufficient time.

Ready to solve learning problems for students
Some teachers expressed that they can contribute solid assistant to the students during Reading Week. Programme Director of Environmental Sciences, Dr Tsim SiuTai, has set aside time to help solve students' learning problems.

Hoping the students will reach out
Associate Professor of the General Education Office, Dr Milen Jissov, was delighted when he learned that UIC would launch a Reading Week. In addition to his reading plan, he is also ready to communicate with his students during that time and hopes that more students will come and reach out to him.

Students are welcome to collect the customised reading list
ELC lecturer, Mr Kirk Glass, organised the English course material books systematically. He uses the width of two palms to describe the thickness of the books that he has read. Mr Glass is thrilled to tailor a reading list for his students based on their English reading ability.

In addition to reviewing, consolidating, and learning to improve, students can also carry out physical and mental activities to plan a reasonable study life during Reading Week.
