UIC Provost Prof Chen Zhi was invited as a guest speaker by the Chinese Culture Colloquium in The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) on 15 October and gave an informative lecture on the shaping of the tetrasyllabic poems in Mid-Western Zhou.

The lecture was based on Prof Chen's cross-examination of the expressions from bronze inscriptions and the odes of "Zhousong" from the Odes of Songs.
According to Prof Chen, Chinese tetrasyllabic poetry was likely shaped in the mid-Western Zhou, originally from the noble class's sacrificial prayers and ritual activities, partly due to the standardisation of Chinese court music (Yayue).
