Mathematics masterclass by President Tang Tao

Published on 14 December 2021

This semester, UIC President and Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof Tang Tao, taught undergraduates a compulsory course titled Ordinary Differential Equations.

“I teach two hours on Wednesday and one hour on Friday,” says Prof Tang, who thinks UIC students are motivated and proactive in learning, daring to ask questions and engaging in discussions after class.

Interest-driven is very important for learning mathematics; however, it also requires intense training. UIC has gathered top-notch maths professors and is ready to foster more undergraduate and graduate students eager to research mathematics.

Despite his hectic schedule as a college’s president, Prof Tang said, “As a teacher, I’m delighted to be able to teach maths and communicate with students.” He further mentioned that research and innovation are significant for a higher institute, but the essence of university education is to cultivate students.

Prof Tang hopes to enhance the teaching and learning of UIC’s mathematics subject and thus promote the overall scientific research development of the college.
