Published on 7 April 2022

While the pandemic keeps affecting the different perspectives of lives, including further education, some believe they've found what they were looking for at UIC. The postgraduate programmes allow students to enjoy an international education without going abroad. At the same time, they can benefit from the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In today's article, we will look at the stories of the students enrolled at UIC for postgraduate studies.

Why they chose UIC

Zhang shangmingzhu

Graduated with a Master of Arts in Communication (Film, TV & Media Concentration) in 2021

Studying at UIC during the pandemic allowed me to get an international diploma domestically. After finishing my one-year taught Master's study at UIC, I continuously carried on for MPhil courses. Now I am applying for PhD courses. I learned to be calmer and patient, and my academic reading and writing competency improved.

Liang Wenrui

Graduated with a Master of Arts in Communication (Communication Studies Concentration) in 2021

Thanks to my postgraduate instructor Dr Li Huaqiang, I have built a comprehensive essay framework and cultivated academic cognition and critical thinking. My final year project was awarded Best Academic Poster. In addition, UIC's encouraging and motivating environment also strengthened my confidence.

Wu Yuxuan

Currently enrolled on the Master of Arts in Communication (Artificial Intelligence & Digital Media Concentration)

I finished my high school and undergraduate study in the US. I applied for the postgraduate programme at UIC, hoping that campus life can gradually help me keep up with the domestic society. I love UIC for its international education system and inclusive environment. Artificial Intelligence & Digital Media Concentration teaches not only communication-related theories but also mathematics and computer techniques. I believe this is the best choice for me.

Jiang Benxiang

Computer Science and Technology enrolled PhD student

UIC's courses teach excellent and valuable knowledge. I undertook many code-writing tasks that required my theoretical understanding of mathematical derivation. I was also assigned to prepare my final project with international conference standards. After studying at UIC, my competencies in code-writing, mathematical derivation, logical thinking, presentation, and English have been enhanced. I also made a lot of friends during this time. I appreciate that UIC provides me with a chance to pursue my doctoral degree.

Gao Manxi

Currently enrolled on the Master of Arts in Communication (Media Management Concentration)

Every course has group assignments that require a collaborative effort. Due to the diversity of everyone's background and personality, we analyse and observe things differently. So every group discussion produces many exciting ideas and conclusions, making our group study more efficient. Also, our collaboration and communication abilities were enhanced throughout the group works. So my skills and knowledge are not the only things that have grown at UIC, but also my mentality.

Li Ziyi

Currently enrolled on the Master of Arts in Communication (Film, TV & Media Concentration)

I worked at a TV station for six years, and I'm aware that keep refreshing my professional knowledge is essential. That's the reason I came to UIC in the first place. I developed new habits at UIC, which will benefit my career. My favourite places to go after class are Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and the swimming pool. Thanks to the abundance of English collections, I always go to LRC for broadening my horizon. So now I am used to reading English books regularly. The heated swimming pool is also a place I am knee to visit weekly.
