UIC's graduates are sought-after in the job market, for they are cultivated to be interdisciplinary and all-rounded with international views. Many are employed by well-known tech companies, continuing their stories of advancement with new identities.

Lin Lu is one of UIC's 2014 graduates of the Applied Psychology Programme. After graduation, she obtained a master's degree from University College London and later worked at Nielsen Market Research Limited before joining Tencent in 2018.

Lin said that thanks to UIC's English teaching environment and practical teaching style, she was equipped with excellent, logical thinking, expression and teamwork skills.

She pointed out that one should utilise their time in college, strengthening their competence for the job market.

Zhao Furui is from the Class of 2019 Public Relations and Advertising Programme at UIC, and later she got a master's degree from Loughborough University. In 2021, she joined Xiaomi Corporation and became one of the youngest supervisors in the company.

When recalling her time at UIC, Zhao said English teaching and participation in summer programmes, student clubs and presentations had enabled her to work hard under pressure, making her more confident and independent.

She hoped UIC students could value every chance to do oral presentations at school and leverage personal advantages thoroughly.

Yu Shuhang is a UIC student from the Class of 2019 Statistics Programme, who received a master's degree from the University of Hong Kong and currently works at Pinduoduo. He had worked at Tencent before his current position.

Yu determined to be an algorithm engineer in his third year at college. He was impressed by the diverse lectures, sharing sessions and teaching resources organised and provided by UIC. He expressed gratitude to Dr Deng Yuhui, the Assistant Dean for Students and External Affairs at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), who guided him extensively.

Yu keeps reading academic papers during the internship

As for career development, he thought students should set a clear goal and polish their profiles with relevant internships, which would be a massive plus in the job market.

Zhang Jingyao is from UIC's Public Relations and Advertising Programme (PRA), Class of 2018, and went to the University of Leeds for her master's degree before joining ByteDance in 2022.

Zhang Jingyao

Zhang remembered Dr Hu Fan's instructions, the Assistant Professor of PRA, encouraging her to intern in 4A companies during vacation. She learned that one should keep absorbing new knowledge to stay competitive through the experience.

She commented that studying at UIC taught her to stay foolish and hungry, and she suggested the students learn from practice and keep self-exploring.
