More than 2,000 first-year students have arrived at UIC since 24 August 2023, the start of the new academic year, with hopes and aspirations to begin their journey of liberal arts education.
The new students come from China's 28 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as international students from the US, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Indonesia and Cambodia.

They were later assigned to participate in the Mentor Caring Programme (MCP), where teachers and senior students help them adjust to university life, the English Enhancement Programme (EEP), Student Service Open Day, military training and other activities.
Over 130 UIC students volunteered to guide and assist new students with their check-in and stay at the university.

First-year students applied for their preferred accommodation in the first and second-phase campuses in mid-August, and nearly 1,000 moved to the well-decorated dormitories at the second-phase campus.

Wang Qi from Zhuji, Zhejiang, is enrolled in the broad-based admission in Journalism and Communication with a full Admission Scholarship. She is very interested in the humanities and UIC's liberal arts education and international environment. She had prepared for her major courses during the summer vacation and looked forward to her college life at UIC.

Li Xinze is from Changsha, Hunan and enrolled in the broad-based admission in computer with a half Admission Scholarship. Having excelled in the National Olympiad in Informatics in Provinces and attracted by UIC's faculty, he hoped to continue competing in modelling or algorithmic fields in college and refine himself as an excellent competitor.

Li Jiaxuan graduated from Zhongshan, Guangdong and will enter the Food Science and Technology Programme with a full Admission Scholarship. She was attracted by UIC's campus, high-quality education and international environment. She enjoyed the warm atmosphere of the university and wanted to participate in some club activities and cultivate good habits.

Tan Mingyue also graduated from Zhongshan and will enter the Statistics Programme with a half Admission Scholarship. He chose UIC because he was impressed by UIC's teaching styles and the harmonious relationship between students and teachers. He learned mathematical analysis and English in advance to lay a foundation for his future studies.

Liu Jiacheng and Zhang Jiaming are twins from Tangshan, Hebei, enrolled in the broad-based admission in Business and Management. They had been actively communicating with their seniors during the vacation to get advice. The brothers hope to engage in the colourful campus life at UIC, learning knowledge and expanding their social circle.

Chen Xuanru from Guangzhou, Guangdong, will study Journalism and Communication at UIC. Her mother believed that a liberal arts university like UIC could expose her child to international education, "and I believe it will make her grow faster and more independent."

Lyu Jingyi from Shenzhen, Guangdong, is majoring in Statistics. Her mother believed that UIC is located in the Greater Bay Area and has advantages in international education. She hoped that her daughter would make good use of these advantages and contribute to the development of the Greater Bay Area in the future.

Di Xiangsheng from Guangzhou is majoring in Applied Mathematics. Through the introduction of UIC seniors, Di was attracted by UIC's beautiful campus environment and international teaching. His parents said, "I hope that he can develop his strengths in an environment suitable for him and make great achievements in his studies."
