UIC inspires new ideas for ecological innovation on forum

Published on 31 May 2024

UIC's Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) co-organised a forum named the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Nature Education and Ecological Economic Forum with Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin on 18 May 2024 to mark the 24th International Day for Biological Diversity.

The two parties signed a strategic cooperation agreement to deepen their partnership in education, scientific research, and talent cultivation, as well as promote comprehensive development in the Cooperation Zone.

The forum's host, Dr Tsim SiuTai of UIC's Department of Life Sciences, highlighted the Cooperation Zone's unique geographical location and favourable ecological conditions, expressing hope for more upscale, innovative, diverse and internationalised nature education.

Assistant Dean of FST Dr Deng Yuhui said that UIC would actively support the construction of ecological civilisation in the Zone, using its research platforms, expert teams and advantageous disciplines, to contribute to the construction of a livable environment in Hengqin.

The forum invited 12 scholars from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, along with experts from various nature reserves, to share insights on topics including innovation in nature education, volunteer service, biodiversity and more. It also displayed 30 ecological-themed posters designed by primary and secondary school students and university students to present their understanding and interpretation of nature conservation and biological diversity.
