The 3rd meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Division of Culture and Creativity (DCC) was held on 15 May, where experts and scholars gathered to provide suggestions for the improvement of the Division.

The meeting was chaired by Head of the Department of Music and Music Director of the Symphony Orchestra at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), Prof Johnny Poon.

The external members attending the conference included former member of the Hong Kong Film Development Council Prof Pak Tong Cheuk; Visiting Professor at Kun Shan University and founder of the Research Institute for Media, Technology and Creative Industries in Taiwan Prof Tain-Dow Lee; Convention and Exhibition Consultant of Guangzhou Vanke Real Estate Co., Ltd in Zhuhai Mr Louis Cheng; and Head of the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts at the Education University of Hong Kong Prof Leung Bo-Wah.
UIC President Prof Tang Tao attended the meeting and expressed his gratitude to members of the Advisory Committee for their support of DCC’s development.
President Tang said: “As a liberal arts College, culture and arts are indispensable to UIC. So DCC is a special Division at our College, and the Advisory Committee is crucial to its development.”
Other attendees of the meeting were the Dean of DCC Prof Brian Clarke; Assistant Dean Dr Jiang Wei; Programme Director of Culture, Creativity and Management Dr Purrie Ng; Programme Director of Cinema and Television Prof Evelyn Mai; Acting Programme Director of Media Arts and Design Dr Rochelle Yang; as well as Acting Programme Director of Musical Arts Dr Kris Ho.
Prof Brian Clarke briefly introduced DCC’s development as well as students’ achievements last year. Programme Directors introduced four Major Programmes and two Minor Programmes from teaching goals, evaluation system, extracurricular activities, facilities as well as plans for improvement.

Aiming to provide more opportunities for students to pursue their interest in tourism and event industry, DCC established the Minor Programme in Tourism and Event Management (TEM), and will welcome its first batch of students in the first of semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.
Members at the meeting gave their own viewpoints. Prof Tain-Dow Lee advised that by doing more academic research, DCC could increase its visibility in international academy.
