The Zhuhai Municipal Local Taxation Bureau launched the first on-campus workshop at UIC about individual income tax for foreigners during the afternoon of April 6 in the UIC gallery.
The Bureau’s Director Mr Yan Guiyang, Vice Directors Mr Lu Qiang and Mr Yang Min, Section Chief of International Taxation Management Mr Liu Zhanyong, and Director of Zhuhai Local Taxation Bureau-High-tech Industrial Development Zone Ms He Jielu were the representatives that visited UIC.

Representing UIC included President Prof Ng Ching-Fai, Managing Director for Financial Planning and Development Mr Nelson Chan, and Director of Finance Office Mr Percy Li.

Also in attendance was President of Beijing Normal University Zhuhai (BNUZ) Mr Tu Qingyun. Vice President of BNUZ Mr Dai Wei, Director of the Human Resource Office of BNUZ Mr Dai Guohong, Director of the Finance Office of BNUZ Mr Ning Shaolin, Chairman of Beijing Institute Of Technology Zhuhai Campus (ZHBIT) Mr Wang Taoguang, as well as Chief Inspector of the Finance Office of ZHBIT Mr Huang Guodong.

The hostess, Cindy Lu from FPECO, opened up and welcomed the guests before inviting the representative of the Taxation Bureau to give a five-minute speech. President of UIC Prof Ng Ching-Fai then took the stage and gave a speech in Mandarin and English. He welcomed the Taxation Bureau to UIC and thanked them for holding this workshop to expand the knowledge and put confusion to rest about individual income tax for foreigners. He also mentioned how UIC and the tax office have a close working relationship.

After Prof Ng’s speech, there was the launching ceremony followed by a group photo of all the representatives. Then there was an information workshop on IIT with a small coffee break that lasted an hour where the Taxation Bureau explained the entitlements of tax paying foreigners as well as all the details and information regarding the process. The forum ended with a question and answer session where foreigners asked about the tax system. One of their questions was whether there will be an English version of the China tax website, to which the taxation bureau responded by saying that there will be an English version soon.

Various local media including Zhuhai TV attended the forum and they interviewed a representative from the Taxation Bureau, President Ng Ching-Fai, as well as foreign representative Samuel Burgess. The interview included questions about how helpful this workshop was for UIC and the foreigners, all responses indicated that the workshop was very helpful for increasing the knowledge about the Chinese tax system for both UIC and the foreigners working there.
