Exchange Programme: Go further, stay stronger

On 16 February, the International Development Office (IDO) held a session about the semester exchange program for the coming fall. The session was conducted at B202 and was organized so that the students can learn and share from previous experiences. The session began with a speech from colleagues of IDO and Academic Registry (AR), this was followed up with experiences being discussed and shared from 7 exchange students.

According to IDO, from 2009 to now, hundreds of students have successfully taken part in the exchange programme and graduated on time. The number of students that choose to participant in the exchange has increased over the years, which shows that UIC are making effort to providing more opportunities for students to study abroad.

Currently there are about 61 exchange seats to choose from 23 universities that are available. The seats are from universities from 9 different countries around the world including South Korea, Germany, USA, UK, France, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, and Canada. Concordia University, University of Kent, the University of Malaya, in addition to Swansea University are just some of the choices.

Yingyi Liu, a Year 3 student from Applied Economics (AE), talks about her time in France

 

Yingyi Liu, a Year 3 student from Applied Economics (AE), studied in Lille Catholic University in France as an exchange student. Yingyi Liu shared her study life and some useful tips with the audience. “Almost everything you do is by yourself”, she said. Yingyi Liu rented her own room, applied for her visa, as well as arranging her own travel. She said that “The greatest learning experience was getting a better understanding of the outside world including what the French thought about China.”

Yilang Jiang, a Year 3 student from International Journalism (IJ), talks about studying in South Korea

 

Another student who took part in the exchange programme was Yilang Jiang, a Year 3 student from International Journalism (IJ).  She went to Kyung Hee University in South Korea for further study. Yilang Jiang emphasized that she preferred a programme at the university called IFCC because it arranged for two ‘buddies’ to accompany her and they would often organize activities for exchange students to make them feel at home. She said that “friendship, experiences and attitude are what I gained from the exchange.”
