The 78th High Table Dinner, a practice in line with UIC’s Liberal Arts Spirit, Whole Person Education and Four Point Philosophy, was held by the Division of Business and Management (DBM) on 21 April. The dinner invited Ms Ivy Cheung, President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) to share her insights into the accounting profession and her work experience with 150 year one students.

Ms Cheung’s topic was “An Evolving Profession Leads to Success”. She spoke of the development of the accounting profession in mainland China and Hong Kong. Since the financial crisis in 2008, China and Asia have been playing an important role in the global economy. In this context, mainland China and Hong Kong can promote China’s accounting profession on a worldwide level and boost the global economy.

She mentioned that with the development of technology and the application of big data, the accounting profession should adapt to a new environment. She encouraged UIC students to establish themselves in the profession and hoped they will do well in whatever path they choose.

Ms Cheung has more than 20 years of extensive experience in leading and overseeing audit services for companies listed in Hong Kong, mainland China and the US. Her specialised areas include providing audit services for organisations in the public sector and corporations in the property and infrastructure sector.
