Professor Ouyang Ziyuan, the chief scientist of China’s first lunar mission, gave an over-two-hour lecture on “China's Dream in Lunar Exploration” at UIC on 23 November.
Being a pioneer in the field of meteorites and cosmochemistry in China, Prof Ouyang is an academic of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a member of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, a member of the International Academy of Astronautics, and a senior consultant of China's future lunar exploration programmes.

He introduced human beings’ achievements in lunar exploration during the 1960s-70s and cleared doubts about the authenticity of the manned Apollo lunar programme. Analysing China’s lunar exploration strategy, Prof Ouyang told stories about and explained the scientific achievements and missions of the Chang’e 1 to 5 lunar orbiters.
He said China will prepare to explore Mars, asteroids, the Jupiter system and other solar system objects in the next two decades.
This distinguished lecture was organised by the Division of Science and Technology.
