During the 13th World Congress of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) held in Baltimore, USA in May, Prof Johnston Wong was conferred with the International Crisis Response Leadership Award for 2015.
Johnston Wong, Chief of Student Affairs as well as professor of the SWSA Programme, and the Social Workers Across Borders Ltd (SWAB), a charitable organisation registered in Hong Kong, were the only recipients of the award this year. Prof Wong is also a cofounder and member of the board of directors of the SWAB.
Johnston has extensive experience in social work, civic education and health education. He was deeply involved in many post-disaster social work projects, including the Sichuan Earthquake (2008), the Taiwan Typhoon Morakot (2009), the Shanghai Fire (2010) and the North-East Japan Tsunami (2011).
The ICISF’s education and training manager, Terri Pazornick, remarked that the response to the Foundation’s award nominations was overwhelming and each applicant had a compelling story deserving of accolades. “Prof Johnston Wong’s dedication and commitment to critical incident stress management is admirable,” he added.
As a non-profit foundation, ICISF provides leadership, education, training, consultation, and support services in comprehensive crisis intervention and disaster behavioural health services to emergency response professions, other organisations and communities worldwide. The ICISF World Congress on Stress, Trauma & Coping is the largest and most visible training event that ICISF holds on a biannual basis.
