Associate Vice President Prof Lilian Kwan started a career development workshop series on 15 September with a talk guiding students to consider career possibilities.
Prof Kwan believes that the professional development planning after graduation should come as early as in the first year of university.

She suggested students apply the learning cycle to plan a career path by identifying probable jobs in their interested industry field. After analysing the perquisites of the desired job, they should formulate an action plan to meet the career goals using the SMART Principle: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.

An e-learning approach was added to the workshop with the help of Associate Director of the Information Technology Services Centre Dr Mark Kai Pan. Students scanned a QR code with their mobile phones and finished a survey on professional objectives, before discussing in groups their action plan for a potential career.

This workshop series will be organised four more times to help students find a life-long career by assessing their personal preferences and enhancing their job hunting, CV and cover letter writing and interview skills.
In addition, the Student Career Development Section of the Four-Point Education Coordination Office will open another series of postgraduate study information workshops led by professionals or alumni in different fields. This series is designed for students to write a better personal statement, prepare GMAT, IELTS and other exams, and select an appropriate university.
Both workshop series will be recorded and the videos can be downloaded at iSpace for those who cannot attend.
