The first phase of the construction of UIC’s new campus has started after one year of preparation since the ground-breaking ceremony on 20 June last year.
According to Director of the New Campus Development Office James Cho, the first phase includes a centre for music, arts and design, an auditorium, an academic community hall, an administration building, a council chamber, a staff canteen and a gymnasium. The gymnasium will provide sports facilities such as basketball courts, tennis courts and a swimming pool. The expected completion time is next autumn.

The second phase construction is expected to begin at the end of this year. It will contain eight teaching buildings, 11 lecture halls, a learning resource centre, a student canteen, a student union office and activity centre, and hostels that can accommodate over 3000 students. Its target completion time is in the autumn of 2017.
Next to the new campus site, the New Cultural Village has completed its second phase and is already providing some students with residence halls and teaching facilities.

The new campus is designed by famous Hong Kong architect Ronald Lu. By incorporating the naturally present streams and ponds into the campus environment, it will be created as a green, open, student-oriented campus with compelling natural scenery.
