Students win prizes at provincial level of national e-commerce competition

Published on 6 July 2015

UIC teams earned a second prize and three third prizes at the Guangdong Competition of the fifth China National College Student "Innovation, Originality and Entrepreneurship" Challenge on 27 June.

This annual e-commerce competition is initiated by the National Steering Committee for the Education and Instruction of E-commence Majors under the Ministry of Education and the National Organizing Committee. It aims to cultivate students’ innovative thinking, entrepreneurship skills and teamwork.

The provincial competition, held at South China Normal University, attracted more than 400 teams from various tertiary institutions in Guangdong. After the first-round review of the participants’ written business proposals, 60 of them from 14 universities and colleges were qualified for the second round.

Four out of seven UIC teams entered the second round. Each participating team was requested to do a seven-minute group presentation, which was followed by a five-minute questions and answers session.

This was the first time for UIC students to participate in the competition and was an invaluable learning opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge as well as brainstorming new innovative business solutions.

Before the provincial competition, participating tertiary institutions organized an internal campus-wide competition to select teams. Nine teams enrolled on the UIC competition, held by the Division of Business and Management (DBM) from middle February to late May. The review panel of the UIC competition included Dean Prof Stella Cho, Dr Anthony Tsui, Mr Allan Yeung, Dr Minyu Wu and Dr Herman Tan for review of project presentations, in addition to Dr Daniel Lam, Dr Karen Lee and Dr Angela Ma for review of written proposals.
