The winning project was started in 2010 and is known as the Camellia Project. It aimed at helping poor farmers and low-income women gain a better life through the production of hand-made tea oil soap. Since its establishment, the Camellia Project has generated RMB 33,000 yuan in revenue and has put into practice an efficient and sustainable business model with long-term benefits.

UIC-Enactus started their preparation for the competition five months ago, and won applause from the judges and other university students

“The UIC-Enactus team’s presentation was well-organised, informative and strikingly direct to the point. The way they present is a good example for us to learn from,” said the participants from Shantou University.

21 teams from Southern China and Hong Kong took part in the annual competition amongst Enactus organisations. They were divided into five separate leagues, from which the top two teams would be named regional champions and qualify for the national exposition. UIC-Enactus turned out to win the first prize in the league that it was located, and together with universities from another four leagues (Hong Kong University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Shantou University and Sun Yat-sen University) gained the chance to go up to the national level competition, which will be held on 16-17 May 2013 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing. The winner of the Enactus China National Competition then will further compete at an international level for the World Cup of Enactus held in Cancun, Mexico, in autumn 2013.
