The Guangdong and Zhuhai governments recognized excellent teachers and faculty before the arrival of Teachers' Day. Prof. Kaitai Fang, a teacher in UIC's Statistics Program, was awarded the title "Guangdong Excellent Teacher" by the Guangdong Government. Additionally, Prof. Kaitai Fang, Vice-President Prof. Cong Zhang and foreign teacher Victoria Steven, were all recognized by the Zhuhai government.    

The Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, of the Provincial Education Department, the Provincial Human Resources and Social Security Department,  and the Provincial General Labor Union published a joint resolution on September 7^th, and pointed out the significance of recognizing Guangdong's "Excellent Teachers",  for developing models, and encouraging teachers. Prof. Kaitai Fang was one of four teachers who won this title in Zhuhai.

On the morning of September 10^th,  the Zhuhai Party Committee and Government hosted the 2012 Teachers' Day awards celebrations. "Zhuhai Advanced Teachers" Prof. Kaitai Fang and Ms. Victoria Steven and "Zhuhai Advanced Faculty Member" Prof. Cong Zhang attended the meeting. New Zealander Ms. Victoria Steven was the only foreign teacher who was recognized this year.

"Guangdong Excellent Teacher" and "Zhuhai Advanced Teacher" Prof. Kaitai Fang is a renowned statistician, and the founder of UIC's Statistics Program. Over the past six years，he has overcome many difficulties to build and make the  Statistics Program grow more professional and comprehensive.

Of this award, Professor Kaitai Fang said it was an affirmation and acceptance of his work and UIC's exploration in education. In an interview, he said his greatest wish was for students' health and overall growth in UIC, and he hoped that they would contribute to society in the future. This was the foundation of education in his opinion, and is his goal.

The three UIC staff who were recognized have all served UIC for more than 6 years. Vice-president Prof. Cong Zhang is responsible for Student Affairs. Prof. Zhang always pays attention to building a natural and cultural environment in the school: UIC is becoming mature in management because of his efforts.

Ms. Victoria Steven created the course Academic Reading and Writing in UIC. She devotes herself to teaching students to read and write academic articles more easily. She also has given a lot of advice to the English Language Center and promoted its development.

Now, eighty percent of UIC's teachers come from outside of mainland China. Some of them were also previously recognized. This achievement really demonstrates UIC's international educational environment, and multi-cultural atmosphere.
