The Fifth Sports Meeting Was Successfully Held

A closing ceremony of the Fifth Sports Meeting on November 26 was full of cheers and yells. There were 33 events with 300 UIC students and teachers and a thousand of audiences attended. Their passion and enthusiasm kept burning all along the day in spite of the rainy morning. Athletes were fighting for victory, audiences were yelling and cheering, the stadium was shrouded by excitement.

President Ng Gave Opening Speech

In the opening speech on November 23, President Ng Ching-Fai said:” The Sports Meeting has been serving a good platform for the development of sports events and spirit. Students and stuff from different regions with multiple cultural backgrounds attended this sports meeting, which helped us get closer and united”. Soon after, the square training performances of every major and the cheerleading squad opened up the meeting.

Vice President Zhang Cong Congratulated the Winner

Athletes did a great job in the events with 3 of those broking the records. The top five in men’s high jump all broke the record, with 1.6m of two winners, JIANG from Food Science and CHEN from Computer Science; Applied Economic students broke the record of 20 × 50 meters relay race; The Management of Human Resource and Food Science broke the record in Centipede race. Finally, Management of Human Resource got champions in both team and individual events. All teams would not have done well without their special attention and regular trainings.

Athletes not only had to compete in speed and height, but also stamina. All the players were able to finish the long distance race. Jeff Mather, a Canadian professor of DHSS, was the runner-up of the Teachers’ Team with 20'30''7. He said that he loved long run so much that he spent 3 hours on it every week. He probably would come again next year, with a better score no longer than 20 minutes.

Brilliant Moments

 

LIANG who had kept the record of male triple-jump event for 3 years was delighted with the championship. As a year 4 student, he had witnessed that more and more refined and developed the sports meeting got. He expected the sports meeting will grow more abundant, providing students with more joy.
