The Second China Fortune Social Venture Prize Competition Ended in UIC

Started from March 2011, “The Second China Fortune Social Venture Prize” competition has always been attention-getting during the past several months.

After two rounds strict selection, 30 teams from 27 provinces including Hong Kong and Taiwan entered the finals. Among all these 30 entry projects, the “Eco-Earthworm Environmental Protection Project” of Shenyang Agricultural University (SYAU), as well as the “Home Care Service Centre” of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) won the gold awards.

Additionally, the Excellent Awards were received by Fu Jen Catholic University, Huazhong Normal University, Hunan University, Macao Polytechnic Institute, UIC, Shihezi University, Sun Yat-Sen University and Central South University respectively. Jury panel included elites from business, political and academic circles in the Hong Kong, Macao and China Mainland.

“The China Fortune Social Venture Prize Competition, teamed with the China Fortune Foundation, was a creative competition based on the principles of “Whole Person Education” and “Four-Point Education”. As an organizer, UIC offered a platform for the competition and played a vital role in it.” indicated by Prof. Ng Ching-Fai, the President of UIC, in the Award Ceremony. “Cultivating Service Leaders is UIC’s vision, and would be more meaningful if such vision is realized in venturing. Meanwhile, the idea “social enterprise” advocated by the Chinese Fortune Foundation well expounds the concept of service leader too.”

Sponsor and Chairman Li Ruliang described the process of joining the competition as a precious treasure, which developed students’ awareness of corporate efficiency and practical skills of society service. He also revealed that compared with other venture competitions, The China Fortune Social Venture Prize Competition is more practical since it authentically helping students with their employments. “4 projects of last year’s winning teams have put into practice.” he added.

Participants from Beijing Institute of Technology expressed their excitement of winning the gold award. Also they determined to do more market researches to perfect the project even it is still stay in a speculative period.

Professor He Shunwen, one of the jurors who had attended other competitions in HK and Macau, highly appreciated the activity, “Particularly the jury covering different fields made the competition a fair, just and open one.” Professor He said.

As participants, universities chose to take part in The China Fortune Social Venture Prize Competition for various purposes. Dishuien College of Hunan University was attracted by its fairness, while Fu Jen Catholic University went in for their desire to venture. They were all inspired by those outstanding teams from all over the country.

Specifically, UIC student volunteer group was one of the backbones in this competition. With nearly 100 volunteers, the group was trained for 3 months. Sponsors, jurors and team members spoke highly of this 100-member team’s performance, appreciating their professional and indicated service.
