My future, My say!——Career talk from KPMG in UIC

“Will you say YES to your future?” With this question, KPMG, one of the four largest international accountancy and professional services firms, began its graduate placement talk in UIC on October 11, 2011, which attracted over two hundred students covered all programmes and grades.

Stella Chou, Dean of DBM, firstly gave a brief introduction to the audience. According to Stella Chou, more than 15 UIC graduates of 2011 got offers from the big four largest international accountancy and professional services firms last year. Their remarkable teamwork spirit and action virtually helped them gaining excellent perspective and will also play a vital role in their career development. Afterwards, on behalf of the college, she presented a souvenir to Mr. Peter Kung, One of the partners, to show our sincere gratitude for his coming to UIC.

A promotional video focusing on the KPMG’s growing history was showed as the opening of the talk. In the video, the frame that managers said “I say YES to KPMG” gained applause from students as well as teachers presented.

Peter Kung gave the students a short speech on his working experience in KPMG. With a video he showed different departments and various programs in KPMG, including Global Working Plan, KPMG Business School for new trainees, Encorn Award Plan, KPMG Charity, etc. With these wonderful programs, working at KPMG is really a valuable and worthy experience for its staff. 

Joined KPMG in 1996, Peter Kung was deeply impressed by the leadership and excellent client portfolio of the company. He suggested students to set up a timetable for their university life and try to obey it, which will help them learning to get priority to urgent issues and enhance efficiently.

Experience Sharing

After Peter’s speaking, three managers coming from audit, advisory and tax gave a brief knowledge of what roles the three departments play in KPMG. One of the managers named Martin is UIC graduate of finance program in 2009. He has worked in KPMG Guangzhou for 2 years and now working as assistant manager of auditory department. He stressed that compared with other competitors he held much better ability in teamwork and English communication, which were undoubtedly benefited from the Liberal Arts and Whole Person Education in UIC.

Detailed process on applying for internship and job of KPMG was introduced to the students by the Human Recourse manager. “Passionate committed players with team spirit are welcomed to apply the job.” according to her.

Q & A Section

 

In the Q&A session, a student doubted, as a professional accountancy firm, will KPMG choose candidates who are not major in Business Management? “We have a two-month training for all the new employees, so you totally don’t need to worry about having no knowledge of professional accounting’’, said Peter Kung.
