Out of 779 recent graduates of UIC, 475 of them attended the 52nd Commencement Exercises of Hong Kong Baptist University on Nov. 5th to Hong Kong Baptist University. About 600 parents came from all over the country to celebrate their children’s academic achievement. Hundreds of students went on to well-known universities for further study, and many of them were employed by multi-national enterprises, state-owned enterprises, government agencies, and private companies.

Mr. Wilfred Wong Ying-Wai, Chairman of the Council of HKBU and Prof. Albert Chan, President of HKBU, gave speeches respectively. They congratulated the graduates on their academic competence, and said that they were proud to see Whole Person Education leaving it mark on students. Distinguished guests from Guangdong and Zhuhai governments, Beijing Normal University, and related enterprises attended the ceremony.

2011 UIC graduates came from 14 programmes, including the Food Science and Technology Programme and Cultural Industries and Management Programme. Many were admitted by famous universities, such as Oxford University, Imperial College London, London School of Economics and Political Science, University of Warwick, Duke University, Boston University, George Washington University, GWU, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University for further studies.

Fu Duo, a graduate of DST, is now studying at Oxford University. His parents said that he was the only Chinese student among all 39 students in the Statistics Department at Oxford. Though Fu Duo was busy with his study, he and his parents managed to attend the commencement at HKBU in order to express their gratitude to UIC teachers.

This year many UIC students chose to go to Hong Kong for master’s degrees. More than half were admitted by Hong Kong Baptist University.

Ou Yangqian, who was a student of DBM, got the Master’s Degree from HKBU this year. She said the four years’ study at UIC made her much easier adaption. The program at HKBU was substantial and very rewarding.

According to data from AR, graduates of this year got better grades than before. More than 70% percent of students got Second Class Honor or above, and 65 graduates got First Class Honor.

Dr. Wendy Chan, Associate Vice President, said that UIC strictly complied with HKBU’s quality assurance system. UIC students were expected to meet high academic standards in order to ensure a true and credible Honors Degree.
