Over 1190 new year-one students for the academic year 2011-2012 arrived on campus and officially registered as UIC students on August 27 and 28. The registration took place at Innovative Education Hall (IEH), a new student hostel compound that is put into use this term. UIC held a series of welcoming activities for the new students to facilitate their quick adaptation to college life, among them parent forums, introduction of educational programmes and inauguration ceremony, English Enhancement Programme, etc.
Decorated with blooms and colorful flags, the IEH was freshly prepared for the new students. The majority of the new students will live in four-bed rooms in IEH, with internet access, independent washroom, wardrobes and desks, others are arranged to live in Liberal Education Hall and Student Hostel Cultural Village. The new students and their parents generally found the living condition satisfactory.
The college has recruited over thirty senior students to act as hostel mentors for IEH to help new student adapt to the living environment.
According to the parents, a majority of them chose UIC for UIC's multi-cultural English teaching environment and internationalized education settings. Ms. Lee from Chengdu works in the education field as well, she said that she compared UIC with many Mainland universities, and she identified more with UIC. She created a QQ discussion group with other parents and communicated their knowledge about UIC. The choice was made after a considerable amount of research.
A new student from Hunan said he received a number of offers from different universities with favorable conditions, but he firmly stuck with UIC.
UIC's enrollment for the new academic year increased both in quality and quantity. In total, 1239 students were enrolled from 26 provinces/cities/autonomous regions in China. Four of them won the Entrance Scholarship. The College will waive their tuition fee for the first academic year.
On the registration day, UIC volunteer student helpers made a good impression on the parents and new students with their confidence, friendliness and helpfulness. Many parents said they felt relief and rest assure about their children's future study and life at UIC.
