The Night of Symphony: Odense Orchestra performed at UIC

On May 17th, “Odense Orchestra" --the worldwide famous orchestra of Denmark--offered an amazing music feast at UIC. 

The concert was held in High table Dinner Hall, where was packed of UICers. President Ng Ching-Fai and other college administration presented too.

President Ng stated that this was a rare opportunity for UIC’s students and staff to get such close communication with the world's first class orchestra. UIC’s ongoing symphony group could also get inspiration from the performance.

Odense Orchestra prepared three programmes for the show: of Edvard Grieg Grieg, of Carl Nielson, and of Antonín Leopold Dvo?ák. Chinese famous violin player Liu Yang and famous conductor Christoph Eberle gave their performance.

Long history dated back to 1800, Odense Orchestral was established in 1946. As one of the top five traditional symphony orchestras in Denmark, Odense had series cooperation with many famous artists and musician world widely. Not only classical symphony, modern composition, light music, chamber music and opera are also on Odense’s performing list. The cross-style play shows the inclusiveness and sustainability of Odense.

Before the show, Odense offered a small drama “Little Mermaid" to audience. It was the first time for UICers to enjoy Northern European style performance, and they were all deeply attracted by the elegant costumes, vivid expressions, and moving singing.

After serious rehearsal, symphony eventually began. On the scene, floods of applauds rushed to those musicians, fantastic music spread around the hall, and audience were reveled in melodies.

After the first polo, President Ng gave a short speech. He represented worm gratuities and welcome from all UICers. He said this was an intercultural experience more than a simple music show. Mr. Febin Shumas, the CEO of Odense Orchestra thanked and spoke highly of UIC's efforts in promoting culture transmission. He hoped that students remember the spirit in minds, as well as the beautiful melody. He also expressed his willing to perform in UIC again in the near future.

Audience Enjoyed the Concert
 
After the concert, President Ng accepted interview. He told journalists that owing to some music fan friends’ support and big will of Odense Orchestra, UICers can enjoy such high level performance at campus. It was a good opportunity to share happiness together. This concert brought us not only music, but also different culture experience. UIC is now establishing symphony orchestra, and this show will give inspiration to us.
