On August 31st, UIC Executive Vice President Professor S.T. Kwok expressed warm welcome to more than 1100 freshmen in his speech at the 2009 Orientation Ceremony. UIC has extended its enrollment to cover 24 provinces and municipalities, with 16 of them offering Level 1 candidates, even though the tuition fee has been increased to 50,000 RMB in 2009.

As the freshmen checked in at the Student Culture Village, they started looking forward to their new life at UIC. They appreciated the efforts made by student volunteers, who helped them go through the registration, to make them feel at home.

A student called Yang Yuan from Yunnan Province was granted a scholarship. She has scored 68 points higher than her local Level 1 qualification line. She chose UIC rather than the Hong Kong Baptist University because her neighbor, also a UIC student, highly recommended UIC to her. She hoped that her undergraduate experience would equip her for further education in HKBU or abroad after graduation. Li Changli from Tianjin City was another scholarship awarded student. She believed that an English-teaching environment would help her improve her English proficiency. She was also impressed with the HKICPA Accreditation and CPA Australia Accreditation which would make it easier for her to get professional qualification. Another student from Hong Kong who majored in International Journalism thought that more exposure to Chinese culture in UIC would be advantageous to his development in the future. He was also attracted by the degree which will be issued by HKBU upon graduation.

On August 30th, more than 1000 parents attended the annual Parents' Forum. UIC Executive Vice-President, Prof. S. T. Kwok told the parents about UIC's uniqueness, its education target and the important role which parents could play in the affairs of the college. UIC would soon launch a "Social Mentor Program", which will invite parents and social elites to give, guidance to mentee students on their career planning  and public lectures at UIC on their life experience.

UIC Orientation Ceremony attracted wide media coverage. In an interview given to the press, one parent showed his satisfaction about international and quality education in UIC. He hoped his child could obtain a brighter prospect in return for his educational investment.
