The Second UIC Sports & Culture Festival, lasting for one month from November to the middle of December, had come to an end. UIC student groups really did a good job organizing the activities. This festival was rich and varied, including competitions, photography, sports lectures and interesting games. Students were not only participants but managers and executives as well. They were well organized and professional and were given high marks by UIC students and staff.
The Sports Meeting in Track and Field
The 2nd UIC Track and Field Meet was held on the BNU sports ground on Nov.30th. It was quite different from the last one because the entire event was organized and managed by student groups.
The opening ceremony began on Nov.29th, at 9:00. Headed by a cheering squad, all the teams moved into the field for the flag-raising ceremony. Prof. Zhang gave an opening address, and an oath was taken by Lin Dongqing and Yao Leiming representing the athletes and judges. After that, performances were given, among them, the dragon and lion dance, taekwondo, Nunchaku and a lively dance given by the pretty cheerleaders. UIC Bursar Mr Joe Wan and the leader Ms Li Xiaokai of SAO also attended the ceremony.
The competition began at 10:00. The records of the high jump and race were broken on the first day. There were many team competitions such as rope jumping and cycling on the second day.
The student organizers had drawn some lessons from the last meeting. They overcame the shortages of budget, human resources and time and worked as a team. Many volunteers served during the meeting. Some of them helpful in first-aid and others are the members of the Red Cross. They ensured the safety and proper order of the meeting.
It was an opportunity for UIC students to develop their abilities to organize an activity, and they really measured up.
