The 14th High Table Dinner was held in the UIC Hall on Nov. 17th, 2008. It was attended by guests from MPCC and by Ms. Deng Qunfang, Vice Mayor of Zhuhai City. Prof. Kwok, the Executive Vice President of UIC and more than 100 students also attended, which was hosted by Prof. S.Y. Zee.
Prof. S.Y. Zee, the vice president of UIC, gave a brief introduction on Whole Person Education (WPE) in UIC. Then the Vice Mayor of Zhuhai, Ms. Deng, made a speech about the history, development and educational reform in Zhuhai. She praised two local sons who went to study abroad, Rong Hong and Huang Kuan, many years ago. "They did not realize that they were changing the education track of China. They did it by getting their degrees from Yale University and the University of Edinburgh," said Ms. Deng proudly.
Ms. Deng also said: "As the first jointly found college by mainland China and Hong Kong, UIC brings innovative education philosophy and the liberal arts to Zhuhai which enrich its historical tradition."
After that, Prof. Kwok made a short summary of this speech in English and toasted Ms. Deng for her great contribution to UIC and to all the guests from MPCC.
While the guests were enjoying the wonderful dinner with students and staff three student pianists entertained the party by playing their favorite pieces.
After dinner, Prof. Kwok invited the guests to walk over to the Student Cultural Village. The rest of the students remained in the dining hall continuing their dinner and took photos of the unforgettable night.
