In a meeting with representatives from MPCC (Minnesota Private College Council), UIC students shared their overseas summer experience with professors of Minnesota colleges in the afternoon of Nov. 18, 2008 at Oasis Tea Room.

Students who were interested in the Student Exchange Programme, Summer School Programme or Study Abroad were also encouraged to join in the discussion. The meeting started with the experience sharing given by those who had studied in American universities and colleges last summer. Cilla, one of the students attended Summer School at Bethany Lutheran College told us: "I was in BLC for several weeks and acquired some media production knowledge there. I was a complete trouble maker because I made the fire alarm ring while we were trying to use smoke during the shooting."

The discussion included questions of what students were eager to know. Most of the students showed their concern on whether they could transfer their credits gained from American universities or colleges to UIC and what opportunities there were to further their study in one of the MPCC colleges.

Mr. Patrick Quade, the Chief of IDO (International Development Office), said, the credits could be transferred as long as their courses taken in America matched those in UIC. As for the privilege of studying abroad, they said the experience of studying abroad gave them a chance to explore the world by themselves and broaden their horizon. Moreover, it might change their mind about future careers by showing them more alternatives.

To our great excitement, UIC had been busy making proposals to American colleges on graduate programmes. IDO hoped every student from UIC would have a chance to study abroad. The post-graduate agreement with Hamline University would be launched very soon.
