A 7.8 grade earthquake attacked Wen Chuan County, Sichuan Province at 14:28 of May 12, 2008.
The earthquake struck more than ten provinces and cities, leaving more than 30 thousand dead in Sichuan Province only, and telecommunication cut, roads broken, houses fallen, .people hurt and waiting for rescue. UIC staff and students responded with immediate action on the sad news. Fund raising began right away. Short term and long term earthquake relief plans were being discussed among students and staff, including visiting the earthquake area, post-traumatic psychological counseling to the survivors, survival skill training, etc. UIC wanted to be counted in the battle.
