Students of the UIC Environmental Protection Program organized a fund-raising fair in front of a shopping mall near Jiuzhoucheng, Zhuhai on Dec. 2008 in aid of the Procapra Przewalskii conservation effort. The activity included a fund-raising show and a charity sale, where students put on performance like fashion show and street dance and sold T-shirts, paintings and calligraphies and handicrafts to shoppers and passersby.

Procapra Przewalskii is a kind of antelope which inhabits in the vicinity of Qinghai Lake. Affected by human activities, the population of Procapra Przewalskii has reduced to less than 300, making it the most critically endangered species in the list of the IUCN Antelope Conservation Action Plan.

Procapra Przewalskii conservation was the theme of this year's environmental awareness course at UIC. Serial environmental protection activities were held to enhance students' environmental awareness and, at the same time, offer opportunities for them to gain experience in field work.

The charity sale on Dec. 15 was a continued effort of an earlier charity sale held on campus on Dec. 5. The entire event was conducted by the students independently. Mr. Jia Jianhong, Deputy Director of the Zhuhai Environmental Protection Bureau, said the activity was a great success. He said that as the main advocator of environmental protection, the government appreciated non-governmental forces to join in the effort. He considered the fund-raising activity organized by UIC students a good example.
