HKBU International Writer Delegation Visits UIC

Published on 29 October 2007

Oct. 24 – "Writing the Sea and the Waterfront" was the theme of this year’s HKBU International Writer Workshop, which invited writers from Australia, Greece, Poland, India, Ireland, Vietnam, Barbados and China for a year’s literature exchange. The writers of the workshop paid a visit to UIC today to share their works and their experience in writing with the students.

The UIC students were exited for the opportunity to see and listen to the world renowned writers, especially in the free discussion section, when the delegation split into three groups to talk to the students. They spent a great time with the writers, talking together about poetry and literature. The students were attracted by the witted and humorous language of the writers. They were impressed by the writers’ love to life and their persisting pursuit to literature creativity.

Including this year, HKBU has successfully hosted four International Writer Workshops. Every year the Workshop invites one or two Chinese writers to be the “Writers-in-Resident” in HKBU and another six to nine writers to be the visiting writers according to the theme of the year. The program will host public speeches, seminars and recitation gatherings for the writers. The teachers and students of the HKBU Translation Program will translate the English works of the writers into Chinese and Chinese works into English.
