After months of fierce competition, a student band from UIC finally fought their way into the Top 16 and stood on the stage of the South China Final of the ‘”Popular Band Championship 2007” that was launched in May on Guangdong TV.

(Performed at the Contest)
The “Popular Band Championship 2007” was the UIC band’s first professional contest. To commemorate the 20th anniversary of modern Chinese popular music, seven institutions including Guangdong TV and Guangdong Broadcast Network jointly organized a series of commemoration activities, among which the Pop Band Championship is one of the most important. The performance of the UIC band was a surprise to everyone at the contest. Though the first time to show their talent in a national contest, the band won floods of applause by their original song Feng Zhi Zi (meaning the son of the wind in Chinese), which sings about their persisting pursuit to their ideal.

(Fresh Faces of the Band)
Set up in May this year, the UIC Band is a very young band consisting of three students from Grade 06 – rhythm guitarist Wang Ge from the Social Science, guitarist Lu Zhuobiao and atmospheric guitarist He Wanzhi from the Cinema and Television. “We are still at a time of learning and merging. The band is still lacking a bassist, a drummer and a vocalist. We are expecting to take in some new blood from the new students this year. Hopefully we can bring you better music in the future.”
