Three UIC Representatives Awarded Zhuhai Educators' and Teachers’ Awards

Sep 6, Zhuhai – UIC Executive Vice President Prof. Kwok Siu Tong was granted the Zhuhai Educators’ Awards, and Dr. Guo Haipeng and Dr. Dave Towey were granted the Zhuhai Teachers’ Awards at the Teachers’ Day Celebration held this afternoon.

In answer to the UNESCO’s call for developing whole-person education, experiential education and life-long learning, Prof. Kwok Siu Tong actively advocates the “Whole Person Education” experiential model. He also originated the unique “Four Points Interactive Education” concept and made it a powerful propeller in the development of the “Whole Person Education”.

Dr. Guo Haipeng is a teacher of computer science and the Director of the UIC Whole Person Education Office. He not only dedicates in teaching, but also makes great effort on Whole Person Education activities. The Summer Whole Person Education Qinghai-Tibet Trip, during which he led 106 students, parents and social participants to Qinghai and Tibet for mountain climbing, voluntary service and environmental study, was a great success that attracted intense attention from the society.

Dr. Dave Towey is a computer science teacher, a linguistics teacher and a popular drama instructor at UIC. The drama club he organized enriches the extracurricular activities of the students and provides for them great opportunities to improve both their English skills and performing skills.

At the Celebration, as the only awarded foreign teacher, Dr. Towey was the center of attention. When a journalist asked him, “what do you think is the most important qualities of a good teacher?” He answered without hesitation, “Passion.”

Passion, a mirror of the UIC spirit, will guide us to find a path towards a new era in China’s higher education.
