UIC Summer Whole Person Education Qinghai-Tibet Experiential Trip Starts
UIC, July 9 — This morning, after several months of preparation, 90 students and 15 teachers headed for their first destination, Xining in Qinghai Province, for the UIC Summer Whole Person Education Qinghai-Tibet Experiential Trip. They will stay one day in Xining for study and rest, then divide into three teams and set out for Yuzhu Apex, Qinghai Lake, the source of the Yangtze River, Kekexili, and Lhasa for voluntary service, environmental study, mountain climbing and cultural study. The whole trip will last for about one month.
The trip was kicked off by a grand Flag Ceremony. UIC Associate Vice President Prof. Zee Sze Yong attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Mr. Wu Fan, Deputy Director of Zhuhai University District Working Committee, Mr. Xue Yongkang, Director of the Zhuhai TV News Center and Mr. Hu Tao, Presenter of “The Focus” on Zhuhai TV also attended the ceremony.
Prof. Zee Sze Yong said in his speech that as the first Hong Kong-Mainland cooperative college, UIC dedicates in promoting the Whole Person Education Concept. One of the approaches to realize the Whole Person Education Concept is Experiential Education, which changes the traditional passive learning into an interactive learning that guides students to learn and develop both mental and physical capability in practice. The Qinghai-Tibet Trip is a practice of the Whole Person Education Concept, and also a lively lecture to introduce the west of China, through which a sense of national identity and patriotism among students, especially Hong Kong and Macau students, will be enhanced. Prof. Zee urged students to put their heart into their experience and learn more during the trip. Guests that attended the ceremony also gave students encouraging words and wished the trip a great success.
Leaded by their team leaders, the students took an oath. They promised they would abide by the discipline, confront difficulties courageously, help people in need, serve the society and fulfill the tasks satisfactorily. Finally, student representatives took over the flags from Prof. Zee and the guests. Students were confident about their ability to finish the trip of challenge after a month’s physical training and preparation. With the flags flying in the wind, they were so excited that they couldn’t wait to start the trip they had expected so long.
The trip has widely aroused attention from the media. Zhuhai TV will film the whole process and China Education TV and Tibet TV will also have serial reports on the activities.
