June 12, Xining – UIC Summer Whole Person Education Qinghai- Tibet Experiential Trip 2007 Departure Ceremony was held at the Gymnasium Square, Xining, Qinghai today.
The departure ceremony was the final mobilization for the UIC teams. After a long train journey of more than 30 hours, the teams arrived at Xining in the afternoon of July 10. After final preparation in Xining, they would set out for separate expeditions. New challenges were ahead.
Prof. Kwok Siu Tong, UIC Executive Vice President, Mr. Gao Yufeng, Deputy Director of Publicity Department of CPC Qinghai Province, , Mr. Qi Guanhai, Director of the Publicity Office of the Publicity Department of CPC Qinghai Province, Prof. Zhao Yanwu, Vice President of Qinghai Normal University, Mr. Ge Yuxiu, Vice Chairman of China Financial Photographer Association attended the ceremony.
Prof. Kwok emphasized in his oration at the ceremony that UIC was the first Hong Kong-Mainland collaborative higher education institution. Its establishment represents the new development of the “One Country Two System” theory in the field of education. On the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of Hong Kong SAR, UIC specially organized the “Return, Experience, and Exceed- UIC Summer Whole Person Education Qinghai-Tibet Experiential Trip” as a celebration. The event is also a lively and extensive citizenship education for students, and an important practice of the experiential Whole Person Education concept.
Mr. Guo Yujing, Deputy Director of the Administration of Sport of Qinghai Province considered the event a meaningful practice of the Whole Person Education concept and an important opportunity for students to gain experience in society and learn more about our country.
The whole event is consisted of two phases. After a short stay in Xining, 106 UIC students, parents and social participants will be divided into three teams, one to directly head for the Yuzhu Apex to challenge the height of 6178m, another to start their voluntary service in ethnic minority school in Huzhu County, Qinghai, and the third to go for environmental study in Qinghai Lake, the source of the Yellow River and Yangtze River and Kekexili. After finishing the activities of the first phrase, the three teams will start off for Tibet by way of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway and join again in Lhasa. They will then visit orphanages, have citizenship education and art, cultural experience together. Hopefully these activities will enhance the communication between Hong Kong, Macau, the southeastern costal area and the Qinghai, Tibet area, and strengthen national identity and patriotism among college students as well.
Flags were granted to students by Prof. Kwok Siu Tong, Mr. Gao Yufeng, Mr. Qi Guanhai, and Prof. Zhao Yanwu. After Dr. Guo Haipeng, the general team leader of the trip presented a memorialize banner to Secretary General of Qinghai Mountain Climbing Association Mr. Deng Haiping, Mr. Guo Yujing officially announced that UIC Whole Person Education Qinghai- Tibet Experiential Trip started. The UIC teams would set out for their challenges with the ardent songs and pure Hada from the hospitable young Tibetans.
