January 11th, 2007, Dr. David Davies and Mrs. Davies came to UIC from Hong Kong and had a free talk with UIC students introducing Liberal Arts education in then US and at Hamline University in particular.
Dr. Davies and his wife arrived in Zhuhai at noon and were received by Prof. Kwok, the Executive Vice-President of UIC, Prof. Paul Hockings, the Acting Dean of the Humanities and Social Sciences Division, Prof. P.C. Sarker, Mr. William J. May and Dr. Ricky Hou. They had a good time during lunch and talked about prospective cooperation in future.
After the lunch, the guests were brought to UIC and shown around the new campus. Dr. Davies was really surprised at the progress, and made a joke that on his last visit he only saw some workers digging the ground at the site of UIC campus, and suddenly, it was like a magic that buildings were set up and students were already studying there.
Then he had a talk with UIC students and introduced the life in Minnesota State, and Liberal Arts education at Colleges such as the Hamline University. For some students concerned about the conditions and preparation before going abroad, Dr. Davies answered their questions in detail. The students stated after the talk that the communication was very useful and meaningful for them.
